Petition Against the Daily Closure of Senator Beth Johnson Park
At present, tens of thousands fo people from around our country are standing together against corporate greed, corporate person-hood, and corporate influence in governmental processes. Our government must return to representing its citizens rather than its banks and big businesses.
This movement has spread out from Wall Street to over one thousand cities in the United States. Proudly, we can say Orlando is one of those cities. On October 15, 2011, over 1,500 Orlando citizens gathered in Senator Beth Johnson Park at 59 South Ivanhoe Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32801, to march in solidarity and begin the occupation movement here in Orlando.
Orlando citizens are suffering the same plight seen throughout the country — unemployment, underemployment, unaffordable education, lack of healthcare, a skyrocketing cost of living, and insurmountable debts. Occupy Orlando is working for the betterment of the lives of Orlando citizens, and striving to be a constant reminder to those in power that the average citizen will not be discounted, marginalized, and taken for granted any longer.
It is critical that this occupation be allowed to continue uninterrupted. Unfortunately, the park is closed from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., which hinders our First Amendment right of free speech, and by extension, inhibits the voice of the American People.
We the undersigned agree that Senator Beth Johnson Park must be kept open twenty four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week, to accommodate Occupy Orlando participants. I endorse their right to a venue for concerned, hurting citizens to use their freedom of speech to peacefully demand that their grievances be redressed.
